BROUGHT TO YOU BY…

Publetters could only happen with the help of some dedicated and free-thinking sponsors:

YARDS BREWING, our presenting sponsor. They make good beer, they’re good neighbors, and they’re great Philadelphians. We are particularly partial to Yards’ Philly Pale Ale, but try them all and make up your own mind. Here’s their story.

TROPHY BIKES — based in Northern Liberties at 712 N. 2nd St., Trophy carries bikes for commuting, touring, and adventure. (we also can set you up with a custom race bike if that’s what you desire)  Our brands include: Surly, Jamis, Fuji, Breezer, IF, Waterford and Gunnar. We have been a Brompton Folder dealer since 2004 and we enjoy selling (and riding) the world’s best folding bicycle. Trophy repairs all makes and models of bicycles; we stock a choice selection of accessories and clothing to make your biking better. Trophy is open 7 days a week. 215.592.1234. www.trophybikes.com. We’re out there on Instagram, FB and Twitter, too.

Trophy Bikes owner Michael McGettigan conceived of Publetters, and Trophy supplies all the US Postal Service stamps at the event.

NORTHERN LIBERTY PRESS– We get our beautiful paper and envelopes primarily from this great, union shop on Mascher Street, just above Girard Avenue.  Visit their website to find out more.

Northern Liberty Press is more than just big machines and high-tech laser printers; it’s a building full of people who know how to make your thoughts look good on the page.

Our PUB PARTNERS

Our thanks to Pat Brett of DOOBIES BAR, who first agreed to the flaky idea of a letter-writing night in her classic corner tavern. Go there any time and write a letter, enjoy a sandwich from the world’s smallest kitchen, or bring friends and grab a board game from the stack. BTW — Doobies hosts a Publetters session on the first Tuesday of every month. Next ones: June 7th, July 5th.

The Standard Tap at 2nd & Poplar has been a lighthouse of revival for the entire Northern Liberties Neighborhood. The Tap was among the first places to “get” Publetters. We always enjoy our sessions there.

The US POSTAL SERVICE. There is a lot of disinformation being spread about how the Post Office “wastes taxpayer money.” In fact, the USPS is self-supporting–yet subject to the whims of a Republican Congress that keeps it from doing things that could put it well into the black. Post Offices can’t change their rates without legislation, they are barred from offering all sort of services which their competition can make money on (copying, coffee, notary, banking, etc.), and worst of all, Congress has required the Post Office to cover pensions 75 years into the future–something no other company or organization in the U.S. is forced to do. This is where the phony red ink is coming from.

We at Publetters are proud to help add to the 28 BILLION pieces of First Class Mail that the Postal Service delivers each year.

Please contact your legislator and ask them to give the USPS a level playing field.
