Final Publetters of June this TUESDAY, 6/30

“Sorry, kid–but sometimes things just don’t go the way we want. We’ll have to meet up later this summer, somehow, somewhere.”  We won’t have the new Ingrid Bergman stamp for the final PUBLETTERS of June at The Grey Lodge. (it’s coming out Aug. 20)…

Ingrid Bergman.... Forever

Ingrid Bergman…. Forever

But we’ll always have plenty of beautiful stationery and a nice selection of First Class Postage, thanks to Casa Papel and Trophy Bikes.  Join us Tuesday, June 30, starting around 7 p.m. Bring a pal.

The Exact Center of June; PUBLETTERS tonight

Tonight's Publetters will be really cool!

Tonight’s Publetters will be really cool!

The nice thing about writing a letter is that you can be as flaky as you want–there are no Google algorithms judging your words, trying to ferret out what ads to show you and so on.  It’s just you, the pen and the paper; and a little while later, that paper and the reader.

Grab your favorite beer, choose some lovely stationery (provided, as always, by Casa Papel), and be our guest at Philadelphia’s premier drinking and writing affair.  The Grey Lodge is at 6235 Frankford Ave. in Mayfair, and we start the proceedings about 7 p.m.

Beer Week, have you met Publetters?

Against the roaring backdrop that is the Grey Lodge Pub during Philly Beer Week, Publetters made a quiet, respectable debut, with some 27 letters sent forth; we wrote to little PA towns like Bensalem–and littler PA towns like Freedom and Beaver Falls. • • • Of course, we sent a couple letters to His Holiness, the Pope, in Rome and to Her Toughness, Tig Notaro, on the West Coast–we really think those two should meet up for a beer.

A note to Mr. Yuengling

Join us at the Grey Lodge, Tuesday nights (6/9, 16th, 23rd & 30th) from just about 7 p.m. to a while after 9 p.m.. • • • We will have everything you need to write a good letter–just bring words! FREE, of course.  www.publetters.com  Now for a station break–Publetters is sponsored by:   Casa PapelYour Vision Brought to Paper and Trophy BikesThe Most Civilized Transportation Known to Man (and Woman) .

For Philly Beer Week, Thank a Brewer! (in writing)

They slave over a hot kettle–the size of an SUV.

They fret over screenfuls of cold, hard Excel files–so that you can enjoy a cold, crisp beer.

Why not drop your favorite brewer a line to let them know you appreciate the work they’re doing?

And what better place, as Beer Week rolls along, then at the bar of the Grey Lodge?

Letters Last

Letters Last

We’re there this very Tuesday, June 2nd, starting at 7 pm and going well past 9 pm.  We will provide nice paper, envelopes, USPS stamps and the addresses of every brewer on tap at the Grey Lodge–along with the mailing addresses of Pope Francis, Sonny Rollins, President Obama, and some other noteworthy people who’d love to read a personal letter from you. Set your favorite beverage on the bar, and let the words roll onto the page–yes, we’ll lend you a pen!

The Grey Lodge is at 6235 Frankford Ave., a brisk 18-minute walk from the El stop, and there’s lots of parking.  If you can’t make it this week, don’t worry–we’ll be there every Tuesday in June.  It’s FREE.

PUBLETTERS is brought to you by Casa Papel and Trophy Bikes.

Help us say goodbye to May at the Standard Tap, this Tuesday (5/26)

We will have some new addresses, some favorite stamps; some lovely pens and pencils to loan, and of course, a selection of posh stationery:

The Standard Tap‘s upstairs bar is one of the nicest in the city, with a beautiful deck and a classic interior that makes you feel like you must have been here before, even if you haven’t!  We start at about 7 p.m., and go till well after 9.  Free, of course.

LOOKING AHEAD: In June we will be at the Grey Lodge, one of Philadelphia’s most venerable craft beer bars–just in time for Philly Beer Week. To mark the occasion, we will have on hand the addresses of every brewer on tap at the Grey Lodge; we encourage you to jot down your impressions on the page and send them to the men and women whose time and talents filled up your glass.  Getting there: easier than you think: just a 19 min. walk from the Frankford Transportation Center, a.k.a. the last stop of the El.

Letters of Consolation and Congratulation

Tuesday was Election Day, and as the minions tallied votes, we wrote notes on plain paper, posh paper and in-between paper at the Standard Tap.

Two very nice ladies penned letters of consolation and commendation to a Mr. Boardman, in Washington, D.C.;  he has been dealing with a very tragic time for the agency that he heads, Amtrak.

Choosing words carefully at the Standard Tap.

Please join us on May 26 for the final Publetters of May at the Standard Tap. We will have some new addresses, some different stamps, and a few ideas for summer vacation missives.

Don’t forget–we will be at the Grey Lodge in Frankford every Tuesday evening in June, starting on June 2nd, during  Philly Beer Week, where of course we may actually write to brewers as we drink their beers which seems like one right proper way of having a multi-media experience.

Thanks and please feel free to tell your friends about Publetters.

Mike (Trophy Bikes)

and Nestor (Casa Papel)   — your Publetters hosts.

ELECTION NIGHT SPECIAL!

We will be working the polls early on Tuesday morning, helping get Helen Gym into City Council (PUSH # 95) , so forgive us if we’re a little sleepy during Tuesday’s Publetters session.

We’ll have lots of political figures’ addresses ready to write your concerns/condolences/congratulations letters to! Join us upstairs at the Standard Tap, 2nd & Poplar Streets in Northern Liberties Philadelphia.  We start right around 7 p.m. and we will go on well after 9 p.m.– as the results trickle in.

Yes, you can write to your friends in Strathmere, if you like!

Tonight’s Forecast: Cold Beers and Warm, Blue-Black Ink at the Standard Tap

One of our favorite pubs to write a letter in is the Standard Tap, and we’re there every Tuesday in this suddenly steamy May. Join us from 7:02 p.m. (give or take!) to 9 p.m. (or thereabouts…) to drink a great, locally brewed beer, possibly slurp down an oyster, and debate the difference between ending your letter with “With Kind Regards” vs. “Flamingly Yours Forever” vs. “Cordially”.

So much friendlier than an e-mail, don't you think?

Casa Papel brings lovely stationery, and Trophy Bikes supplies a ridiculous array of First-Class Postage.  It’s Free, of Course. Yes, we’ll gladly lend you a pen.
