Publetters Season Opens for 2016!
PUBLETTERS STARTS THIS VERY TUESDAY, January 5th, at a brand-new location: CLARKVILLE, 43rd and Baltimore–where Southwest Philly meets University City and says, “Jeet yet?” As always we (Trophy Bikes & Casa Papel , that is) bring all the USPS stamps, paper, envelopes and pens needed to write a lovely letter while you sip an equally lovely beer. Just bring words!
Please check and make sure you’ve got some up-to-date addresses on hand–but fear not; Publetters endorses your calling, texting, or even emailing your loved ones to get their land mail coordinates–remember to ask for their Zip Code. Starts around 7 p.m., goes till after 9 and it’s FREE, of course.

I have stopped reading letters half-way through, thinking, “I will save the rest to read with coffee tomorrow morning…” I have carried letters for a day or two before opening them because I got too busy. But pilot and author Mark Vanhoenacker takes things to another level.

PUBLETTERS in NOVEMBER • just one this month, on 11/17, at DOOBIES
Join us for the first Publetters of Fall, in the very middle of November, Tuesday, 11/17 at DOOBIES BAR, 22nd & Lombard Streets in SW Center City. 
We will have nice stationery and stamps thanks to Casa Papel and Trophy Bikes. We’ll even lend you a pen! Starts about 7 pm and goes on till well after 9 or even 10. FREE, of course. Drink specials if you order in writing (see example above!).
Almost forgot–we will bring our handy yet infamous “cheat sheet” packed with addresses of the great and good from Pope Francis to Tig Notaro to Don Guardian (the long-suffering Mayor of Atlantic City) and many more.

It was SCARY how many letters were written during last week’s session upstairs at Tired Hands Brew Cafe. Quite a crop of letters on this, the second of four Tuesdays, here in Ardmore PA. We spotted mail bound for nearby Ridley Park, hip Hoboken NJ, bucolic Shadyside, Ohio and Dutton Park, way down under in Australia. Join us next Tuesday (10/20) starting at approximately 7:03 p.m.

Please join us in our first-ever “suburban” Publetters! • • • • • • • At Tired Hands Brew Cafe (it’s free, of course)
We don’t think we’ve gone too suburban, really; Ardmore , PA is a true small town, and we are very happy to set up our stamps and envelopes and pens inside the Tired Hands Brew Cafe at 16 Ardmore Ave., a quick walk from the SEPTA train station. Our first Publetters there is this coming Tuesday, Oct. 6th, starting at perhaps 2 minutes past 7 p.m. Swing by and write a letter or three to some friends while you enjoy some of the most original beer brewing on the planet.

WOW–PUBLETTERS is ONE!
It was a year ago this month that the idea of pouring words onto a page and beer into a glass gently struck us, as we sat comfortably in Doobies Bar. Owner Patty Brett encouraged us (Mike McGettigan/trophy bikes, Nestor Torres / Casa Papel, that is) – and PUBLETTERS was born.
Since then, we’ve been to lovely taverns all over Philadelphia (and one down in Atlanta!), encouraging that heartfelt, lasting form of communication–the handwritten letter, bearing a First Class stamp and delivered by the greatest mail couriers on the planet Earth–the US Postal Service.
We’ve watched nearly two thousand letters clunk into the mail box, some going down the street, some as far as Ireland, Uganda and Vatican City. We’ve written to soldiers on patrol, prisoners waiting for parole, and a little boy in Foxboro, Massachusetts hoping for just one more birthday card.
JOIN US IN JULY, back at Doobies Bar, 22nd & Lombard Streets, every Tuesday night (7/7, 14, 21 & 28th) for Publetters. Enjoy a craft beer or two and write a nice letter to someone special.
